Concept

Encore is a concept piece that imagines a sensor-based bracelet capturing parts of a live show that mean the most to someone. The audio recording is triggered when the person has a strong emotional response measured through her skin conductance (how easily the skin is conducting electricity based on sweat levels) and heart rate.

Process

1. BRAINSTORMING
As part of our research, I and two other students attended a Klezmer music festival. We used that experience to inform our brainstorming session. We then generated ideas for a ubiquitous computing solution that would enhance the experience of a live performance.
2. STORYBOARDING
We created storyboards for the top six ideas. We used these storyboards to convey our ubiquitious computing concepts to participants in the next step, concept validation.

3.CONCEPT VALIDATION (SPEED DATING)
We conducted speed dating sessions, brief interviews used to gather qualitative feedback of our concepts with six participants. We were particularly interested in seeing which ideas participants felt most excited about in order to narrow down to one.

4. DEVELOPING USE CASES
We created three use cases for encore that would serve as three vignettes within our concept video. This included writing a script and storyboarding the different shots.
Use Case 1. Capture Emotional Memories
Use Case 2. Sharing Your Experience with Others
User Case 3. Connecting to the Whole Song

5. PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER: VIDEO CREATION
After creating the voice recordings, taking photographs, and gathering other images we put it all together in video format using After Effects.
